How the airport-to-hotel drive actually works
BER sits about 25 to 35 kilometres southeast of central Berlin, depending on which part of the city you are heading to. The route is straightforward: you leave the airport onto the A113 motorway heading north, then merge onto the Stadtring A100, which is the urban motorway that loops around the western and southern edges of the city centre.
Where you exit the A100 depends on your hotel. Potsdamer Platz and Mitte hotels mean an exit around Schöneberg or directly via the B96 at Tempelhof. Charlottenburg and Ku’damm hotels mean staying on the A100 a bit longer and exiting near Halensee or Funkturm.
On a good day, the drive takes 30 to 35 minutes to most central hotels. During rush hour (roughly 7:30-9:30am and 4-7pm), that can stretch to 45 or even 50 minutes, mostly because of congestion on the A100, particularly between the Tempelhofer Damm and Innsbrucker Platz exits.
Our drivers know the alternatives. When the A100 backs up near Schöneberg, the surface route through Tempelhof and Kreuzberg to reach Mitte hotels can save 10 minutes. For Charlottenburg, cutting through Steglitz on the B1 sometimes works better than sitting in A100 traffic near the Funkturm interchange.
Mitte and Potsdamer Platz: where most business travelers end up
This is the cluster where the majority of corporate guests stay. Government buildings, embassies, major consulting firms, and financial institutions are all within a short drive or even walking distance. Hotel Adlon Kempinski (Unter den Linden 77) sits right next to the Brandenburg Gate. The distance from BER is about 28 km, and the drive takes 30-40 minutes depending on traffic. You approach via the A113 to A100, then exit toward Tempelhof and drive north through Kreuzberg and along Friedrichstraße, or take the B96 up through Potsdamer Platz and along Ebertstraße.
The Adlon is where heads of state and senior executives stay when they want a hotel that needs no introduction. The conference facilities are good, but what makes it work for business is the location: you can walk to the Bundestag, the embassies on Wilhelmstraße, and half of Berlin’s government quarter.
Ritz-Carlton Berlin (Potsdamer Platz 3) is right on Potsdamer Platz, which puts you in the middle of the Sony Center, the offices around Leipziger Platz, and the Kulturforum. From BER, it is about 27 km and typically 30-38 minutes by car.
The approach is similar to the Adlon: A113 to A100, exit at Schöneberg or Tempelhof, then north to Potsdamer Platz. This hotel works particularly well if your meetings are with any of the large firms in the Potsdamer Platz office complex or if you need quick access to both Mitte and the western city.
Grand Hyatt Berlin (Marlene-Dietrich-Platz 2) is essentially the Ritz-Carlton’s neighbour, sitting on the other side of Potsdamer Platz at the edge of the Kulturforum. Same distance, same drive time, same route.
The hotel has solid meeting rooms and sits right above the Potsdamer Platz U-Bahn and S-Bahn station, which is useful if you need to get somewhere by train during your stay. The lobby bar area is a popular informal meeting spot for the business crowd.
Regent Berlin (Charlottenstraße 49) is on Gendarmenmarkt, which is one of the prettiest squares in Berlin and also happens to be surrounded by law firms, consultancies, and financial offices. From BER, the distance is about 27 km. The drive takes 30-40 minutes, with the last stretch going through Kreuzberg and up Friedrichstraße or Charlottenstraße.
The Regent is quieter than the Adlon or the Ritz-Carlton, which some business travelers specifically prefer. It is a smaller property with fewer tourists passing through the lobby.
Charlottenburg and Kurfurstendamm: the western business district
If your meetings are near the Ku’damm, in the offices around Breitscheidplatz, or if you have anything happening at Messe Berlin (trade fairs), these hotels save you from crossing the city every morning.
Waldorf Astoria Berlin (Hardenbergstraße 28) sits in the tower building right at Bahnhof Zoo. The distance from BER is about 32 km, and the drive takes 35-45 minutes. You stay on the A100 longer than for Mitte hotels, exiting near Halensee or at the Kurfurstendamm exit, then it is a short drive east to Hardenbergstraße.
The hotel is high-end without being flashy about it. Good for senior executives who want a central west Berlin location. Messe Berlin is about 10 minutes away by car.
InterContinental Berlin (Budapester Str. 2) is close to the Waldorf, overlooking the Berlin Zoo and just off the Ku’damm. About 31 km from BER with a 35-45 minute drive on the same route.
The InterContinental is a solid workhorse for corporate groups because of its size. Large conference facilities, plenty of rooms, and the staff is used to handling business events. It is also one of the closer major hotels to Messe Berlin, which makes it a popular choice during trade fair weeks.
Sofitel Berlin Kurfurstendamm is on the Ku’damm itself, which means easy access to the shops and restaurants along the boulevard but also to the offices in the surrounding streets. Similar distance and drive time as the other Charlottenburg hotels. It is a good mid-point option if you have meetings split between west Berlin and Mitte, since the hotel sits between the two areas and both are reachable in 15-20 minutes by car.
Near Hauptbahnhof: for government and rail connections
Berlin’s main train station is also close to the government quarter, the Bundeskanzleramt (chancellor’s office), and the Spreebogen area where several federal ministries sit. Hotels here make sense if you are arriving by train for part of your trip, or if your schedule revolves around the government district.
Steigenberger Hotel Am Kanzleramt is literally named after the chancellor’s office next door. From BER, it is about 29 km and 30-40 minutes. The route goes via A113 to A100, then you exit toward Potsdamer Platz and continue north through the Tiergarten.
The hotel is modern, well-run, and frequently used for political and government-related business travel. Walking to Hauptbahnhof takes about five minutes.
Motel One Berlin-Hauptbahnhof is the budget-conscious option on this list. If your company books smart rather than expensive, this is worth knowing about.
The rooms are compact but clean and well-designed, and the location right at Hauptbahnhof is excellent for connectivity. Same distance and route from BER as the Steigenberger. We pick up from here regularly, and the drop-off logistics are easy because the hotel entrance faces the station square.
Near Messe Berlin: for trade fairs and conventions
Berlin’s exhibition grounds host ITB, IFA, InnoTrans, and dozens of other industry events throughout the year. If you are attending a multi-day trade fair, staying near Messe saves you significant commuting time, especially since taxi and ride-hailing availability around the fairgrounds can be unpredictable during major events.
Crowne Plaza Berlin City Centre is on Nurnberger Straße, a short walk from both the Ku’damm and a quick drive to Messe Berlin. From BER, the drive is about 31 km and takes 35-45 minutes on the standard A113/A100 route. It is a reliable mid-range business hotel that handles convention crowds well.
Pullman Berlin Schweizerhof sits on Budapester Straße near Bahnhof Zoo, close to the InterContinental. About 31 km from BER, 35-45 minutes by car.
Good conference facilities of its own, and Messe Berlin is about a 10-minute drive. During major trade fairs, many corporate groups book blocks here.
