Berlin’s business geography: what your driver should know
Berlin is not like Frankfurt or Munich, where the business district is compact. Corporate locations are spread across the city, and the travel time between them depends heavily on which route the driver takes and at what time.
Some things a Berlin-based driver knows that a GPS does not:
- The route from Potsdamer Platz to Adlershof via the A113 takes 25 minutes at 10am but 45 minutes at 5pm. Going through Treptow on surface streets is often faster in the afternoon, even though the GPS says otherwise.
- Messe Berlin (trade fair grounds) has multiple entrances, and the right one depends on which hall you need. Entrance South for Halls 1-7, Entrance North for the CityCube. During IFA, the A100 exit at Funkturm backs up from 8:30am onward. Experienced drivers use Kaiserdamm and approach from the west.
- The Bundestag and government quarter have restricted access zones. Not every car can pull up to every entrance. If your meeting is at a ministry building, the driver needs to know where the approved drop-off points are.
