How much does a private airport transfer cost in Berlin? Full price breakdown

Apr 17, 2026 9 min read

This is the question people type into Google at 11 pm the night before their flight. And most of the results they get are useless: booking pages that make you enter your details before showing a price, or vague copy about “competitive rates” that does not actually name a number.

So here are the actual numbers. We will cover what a private transfer from BER airport costs, what a taxi costs by comparison, what ride-hailing apps charge, and when each option makes financial sense.

The short answer

A private airport transfer from BER to central Berlin (Mitte, Alexanderplatz, Potsdamer Platz area) costs between €49 and €160, depending on the vehicle and the provider. Budget providers start around €35-50 for a standard sedan. Premium services with Mercedes S-Class vehicles go up to €160 or more.

A regular taxi for the same route costs €58-70 on the meter.

Public transport costs €5.

The rest of this article breaks down exactly where those numbers come from.

Private transfer prices by vehicle type

Here is what the Berlin airport transfer market looks like in 2026, based on published rates from several providers:

Vehicle typeCapacityTypical price range (BER to city centre)
Standard sedan3 passengers, 2 bags€75-95
Business sedan (Mercedes E-Class)3 passengers, 2 bags€79-140
Premium sedan (Mercedes S-Class)3 passengers, 2 bags€80-160
Minivan (Mercedes V-Class)5-6 passengers, 6 bags€75-120
Sprinter van8-12 passengers, 12 bags€90-160

The price spread is wide because the market has two tiers. Budget transfer companies (GetTransfer, some Viator listings, smaller local operators) compete on price with sedans in the €35-50 range. These are often Skoda, Toyota, or similar vehicles with independent drivers.

Premium transfer companies (Berlin City Transfer, Blacklane, The DMC Collective) run Mercedes fleets and charge more, but include things like flight tracking, meet-and-greet in the arrivals hall, free waiting time, and fixed pricing with no surcharges.

At Berlin City Transfer, our pricing for the BER to central Berlin route:

  • Business sedan (Mercedes E-Class): from €79
  • Premium sedan (Mercedes S-Class): from €79
  • Minivan (Mercedes V-Class): from €79
  • Sprinter (up to 12 passengers): from €89

All our prices are fixed at booking. They do not change if your flight is delayed, if there is traffic on the A113, or if it is 3am on a Saturday.

What is included in that price (and what is not)

This is where providers differ and where the sticker price can be misleading. A €35 transfer that charges extra for luggage, waiting time, and tolls can end up costing more than a €60 transfer that bundles everything.

What we include at Berlin City Transfer:

  • 60 minutes of free waiting time after your flight lands (most budget providers include 15-30 minutes)
  • Flight tracking so the driver adjusts if your plane is early or late
  • Meet-and-greet in the arrivals hall with a name board
  • Luggage handling from terminal to car
  • Tolls, parking, and fuel
  • Free cancellation up to 24 hours before pickup
  • Child car seats on request (no extra charge)

What to watch for with cheaper providers:

  • Waiting time charges after 15 minutes (typically €0.50-1.00 per minute)
  • Luggage surcharges for more than one bag per person
  • No flight tracking, so if your flight is late, the driver may leave or charge extra
  • Meeting point outside the terminal rather than in the arrivals hall
  • Night surcharges between 10pm and 6am

The waiting time issue matters more than most people realize. If your flight lands on time and you breeze through immigration and baggage claim in 20 minutes, even 15 minutes of free wait time is enough. But if your flight is 30 minutes late and there is a queue at passport control, you can easily eat through 45 minutes before you even reach the arrivals hall. With a budget provider, that could add €15-30 to your bill.

How taxis compare

Berlin taxis from BER use meters. There is no flat rate. The fare structure:

  • €4.30 base fare
  • €1.50 airport surcharge (mandatory at BER)
  • €2.80 per km for the first 3 km
  • €2.60 per km from 3 to 7 km
  • €2.10 per km beyond 7 km
  • €6 extra passenger/luggage fee (sometimes applied, sometimes not)

For the ~27 km ride to central Berlin, this works out to €58-70. The range depends on traffic and your exact destination. Mitte is cheaper than Charlottenburg because it is a shorter route from BER.

One thing Berlin taxis have going for them: no night surcharges. A 3am taxi costs the same per kilometre as a 3pm taxi. That is not true in every German city.

The downsides: you cannot lock in a price before the ride, you might wait 15-20 minutes in the taxi queue during peak hours, and some drivers prefer cash. Not all taxis have card machines, despite the city regulation requiring them.

How ride-hailing apps compare

Uber, Bolt, and FREENOW all work at BER.

Normal prices to central Berlin:

  • Uber X: €50-55
  • Bolt: €45-52
  • FREENOW: standard taxi meter rate (€58-70), but with app-based booking

The catch is surge pricing. When lots of flights land around the same time, ride-hailing prices spike. We have seen Uber quotes above €90 for a route that normally costs €52. You will not know the price is surging until you open the app after landing.

FREENOW avoids the surge problem because it connects to regular Berlin taxis at meter rates. But then you are paying taxi prices, not ride-hailing prices.

Cost per person: when private transfers beat taxis

This is the calculation most people skip, and it is the one that matters most.

Group sizeTaxi costPrivate transfer (V-Class)Cost per person (taxi)Cost per person (transfer)
1 person€58-70€79€58-70€69
2 people€58-70€89€29-35€34.50
3 people€58-70€99€19-23€23
4 people2 taxis needed: €116-140€109€29-35€17.25
5-6 people2 taxis: €116-140€129€19-28€11.50-13.80

The breakeven is around 3 people. Below that, a taxi is roughly the same price. At 4 or more passengers, a private V-Class transfer is significantly cheaper than splitting into two taxis, and everyone rides together with their luggage in one vehicle.

For families, this math is even more favourable. A taxi cannot fit two adults, two children, a stroller, and three suitcases. You would need two taxis. A V-Class handles all of it in one trip.

What about public transport?

A BVG ABC ticket costs €5. The FEX train gets you to Hauptbahnhof in 23 minutes. If you are solo, traveling light, and your hotel is near a major station, this is obviously the cheapest option and we would not try to talk you out of it.

But public transport has costs that do not show up in the ticket price.

First, time. The FEX takes 23 minutes to Hauptbahnhof, then you probably need another 15-20 minutes on a connecting train or U-Bahn, plus walking time. Door-to-door, you are looking at 50-70 minutes vs 30-45 in a car.

Then there is the luggage situation. There is no luggage storage on the FEX. During rush hour, you are standing with your bags in the aisle. With two suitcases and a backpack, it gets old fast.

And the hours matter. The FEX does not run between 1am and 4am. If your flight lands in that window, public transport is not an option on weekdays.

For a couple, the math: two ABC tickets are €10, a taxi is €58-70. The premium for door-to-door car service is €48-60. After a long flight, that is not an unreasonable amount to pay for comfort.

When each option makes sense

If you are solo with a small bag going to Hauptbahnhof, take the train. €5, 23 minutes. Hard to argue with that.

For 1-2 people with moderate luggage who do not mind an unknown final fare, a taxi works fine. €58-70, quick if the queue is short.

If you want to see the price before getting in and you are not landing during a busy window, try Bolt or Uber. €45-65 normally, but unpredictable during peak arrivals.

And for groups, families, business arrivals, heavy luggage, or flights landing between 1am and 4am: book a private transfer. The price is locked before you fly, someone is waiting when you land, and there are no surprises.
